I have this issue with my Barley Crusher as I've had mine for 6 or 7 years now and the rollers are likely pretty worn. I started conditioning my grains which helps the rollers pull them through. I let the grains sit for 10 minutes after conditioning, then run through the mill.

In my case, consistency has nothing to do with it. The LHBS uses the same mill that I have (JSP) and give a good grind. But the LHBS is a 60+ mile round trip from home. I buy my malt from the LHBS, and buying 50 100 Kg at a time as whole malt doesn't go stale quickly, it paid for itself many times over with just the one trip.a.

At 115 it's not a small investment, but grain mills can easily get above 200 so it's not on the higher end of the price range. It comes with a 7 lb capacity aluminum hopper. That motor seems on the weak side but it all depends on the mill that you plan on driving. The max RPM's seems on the low side as well (135 RPM). For comparison my mill motor is 180 RPM at ftlbs. This Link motor works with the Barley Crusher based on a member of the beer club.
I think the Barley Crusher Grain Mill is still the best bang for the buck at, well at Northern Brewer anyways, about 10 bucks more than when I bought mine 2 years ago come July. It comes with everything pictured, unlike the expensive mills where everything comes separately. Here it is sittin atop my 5G Lowe's bucket, which seems to fit the base tighter than the orange Home Depot bucket.

If this is your primary method of crushing malts, you might want to invest in a marble rolling pin. Grains can be tough little nuggets and may dent a wooden rolling pin.

Unlike the Corona Mill its actually meant for grain with a large hopper. It does the same thing as a Monster mill for 1/3 of the price. It lasts. I've had mine for 5 years and it works like new after 100's and 100's of pounds of grain, 25 pounds at a time. It only costs around 90 if you get it on sale.
